Fourteen days of safe zone levels for Lucas! What a fantastic feeling & along with the great feeling of safe zone levels we also have the great news that we still have no diet changes in over 2 weeks! I am very relieved that we appear to have found a good place with Lucas' diet, it means he is getting all the protein he needs; whole protein from breast milk and the Similac formula and also the phe free protein from his PKU formula.
We have a "big" appointment with his Metabolic team of doctors and dietitians on Wednesday next week and there is talk of us learning about his current tolerance, which I look forward to hearing and sharing!

I have to admit that the day leading up to a phone call from the dietitians I tend to start feeling anxious, wondering if his levels have changed despite no changes in diet and just a general worry. This makes me remember what fellow PKU parents have told me; "don't let the numbers control you". I have also had parents tell me it is all too easy to focus on the PKU and not focus on the fact that you have a beautiful baby who is more then just a phe level. He is Lucas, he is not PKU. PKU is just part of our adventure (as a wonderful lady once put it). Therefore I am going to spend the remainder of this blog post sharing how LUCAS is doing and just generally being all proud Mommy!
Lucas is 3 months old today and he is amazing if I do say so myself! We now get lots of smiles when we play games or when you say some of his favorite phrases. One of the ones pretty much guaranteed to get him smiley is when Jeff comes home and tells Lucas "Hi, so nice to see you" (cue Mommy's heart melting)
We have even started to get little giggles out of little man, he really loves to be sitting up and likes laying out on his Mommy. He also now likes to suck on his fists, even if it takes him lots of tries to get said fist to his mouth.
When Lucas does his pout he makes anyone close by just stop whatever they are doing and go "awe, he is so cute!" - I am not entirely convinced that this is not done on purpose (just kidding... kind of).
We are proud to say he weighs in at a whopping 11lbs 3oz as of Monday and is showing no sign of slowing down on his weight gain! He has good nights of sleep (5-7 hour stretches) but also still has many nights where he is up every 2 or 3 hours which are the nights that lead to my caffeine Facebook posts!
Lucas sure looks for Jeff or myself when we talk or when someone else is holding him, but he also is really getting to know (and respond) to certain people other then his Mom & Dad. Both sets of Grandparents sure get the smiles out of him, as do his Great-Grandparents and Aunts! He is sure a happy baby who loves to interact with the world around him!

A very loved little boy.
